Thank you Jason! This hear what you said means a lot to me... "We fail to put down our phones and engage fully with the people and experiences right in front of us. Like the film industry before the 1937 fire, we often fail to recognize the value of what we have until it's gone." People don't do that any more...it's sad. I see it in restaurants, even. On their phones, and other gadgets, while their family members are sitting right there being ignored.. I have an older sister, she told me that she rarely sees her adult children, on only lives a half hour away. She said that if she got off fb, she wouldn't know what was going on. Even on Social Media the people don't communicate... constantly putting imoges....what have we become..,...
While I plan to try and find the long-missing movie CLEOPATRA, and I thoroughly enjoyed F.W. Murnau's NOSFERATU, Hammett's MALTESE FALCON, THE THIN MAN, How the West Was Won, and the incredible DARK CITY, I would consider it a great opportunity to be allowed to destroy all recent Disney movies and to completely forget the MARVEL franchise.
That being said, the movies, while a staple of Depression-era entertainment that reached its peak of perfection in the 40's and 50's, provides more than passing trends, it, like the Christian-destroyed library in Alexandria, provides a history of the world in stasis. Few people read in the 21st century - even those with the ability to do so.
The loss of old movies represents the loss of culture, history, and the creative endeavors of those working in a new medium. In their way, they represent blessings that can educate and inform us.
