A powerful story that I had not heard before. I appreciate the element of angst that runs thru country music - a reminder of the realities of life and the importance of God's provision. Thanks for sharing this!

As a lifelong fan of Hank Williams, I was thrilled to read your essay this morning. Hank was a complex man. The man who wrote MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS and HONKY TONKIN' also wrote (as you noted) I SAW THE LIGHT. As conflicted, addicted, and blinded with pain as he was, he rose above it and became a legend.

I can't imagine why everyone isn't a Hank Williams fan. In his short life, he created music that will be played as long as human brains are not turned to mush by injected poison.

"Hillbilly music"... that's exactly what my dad called it back in the 1950s! He didn't appreciate it, but I loved it... Another fascinating post!

I don’t know much about Hank Williams but remember seeing his son on television. Was really surprised to see Hank was only 29 when he died; he always looked liked he was in his late 30’s to early 40’s. 😮
