You give reference to the passage in Exodus where Abraham responds to God's call, "Here I am." In the Old Testament, this particular phrase is used several times by men whom God had called, like Samuel, Jacob, Isaiah, and Abraham again as he prepared to sacrifice Isaac. I had noticed this many years ago and did a study of that Hebrew phrase, discovering that the root word of that phrase means, "I'm listening." In order to hear when God speaks, I must first be in a mode of listening, ready then to act according to his words.
