I remember this time. I didn't understand it, being about 10 years old, but like most kids in grade school, I did the drills in case we were attacked. I remember that they really didn't explain why we were under the desk but to go there if the sound was given.
Good account. But if a Republican had been president during this episode, the media would have pilloried him for bringing the US so close to disaster and he would be remembered today as a villain.
Same with Three Mile Island. No one died there. Three Mile Island was only a “disaster” because the leftists hated nuclear power. Same with Pearl Harbor. If a Republican had been commander in chief, he would have been vilified and removed from office for the disaster (the U.S. military had plenty of warning of the attack). But instead, Roosevelt was a hero And he was never blamed because the leftist media refused to blame him for anything and hid what was really happening during his administration.
I remember 1962. John F Kennedy was no hero, ever.
Excellent work. A time in history that had far reaching consequences. I was just a toddler at the time but I can remember the tension in our household. Until about 1969 or so we still conducted air raid drills at school. I thank God that it was Kennedy as President. Diplomacy is paramount in situations like that.
Being only 7 years old at the time this occurred, I honestly don't remember it as it happened. But as a history buff I've watched a few documentaries on it and have come to realize just how perilous all this was. When I need godly wisdom, I know several deeply wise men and some women whom I trust because I know their council will be scripture-based, and I know it by the way I watch them live their lives.

Few get this account right. You did. It’s nice to get history correct when it has been wrong or just fabricated.
Thank you, Dory! I appreciate that. I think we have a duty to try to get history right. There's lessons we can learn from our mistakes.

You're not wrong.
