Words absolutely have power, both positive and negative. I am continually abhorred by the vulgar culture in which we now live. It makes it difficult to find and watch modern movies and television. The apostle Paul said this in Ephesians 4:29, "Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them."
Incredibly interesting. Read both books in high school but didn't know much about the author. Thank you, Jason, for telling the story and again making it relevant to our lives today!
Thanks for an interesting article. Today is the first time I’ve read your post as your name was familiar to me as an attorney I used once. I will read you again and enjoyed the article and the prayers.
Thank you, Jean. Yes, there are quite a few of us Jason Clarks around. There was actually even another one in my hometown of only 11,000 people. I use my middle initial but I'm certain that is not unique either!
Oh boy, yeah, I continually have that same issue with my name. So often, when I introduce myself to someone, he or she will tell me they know a Jeff Johnson! It certainly no longer surprises me. And like you, I use Jeffrey L. Johnson as my signing name to try to distinguish it, but I have multiple stories of misidentification, including one where the U.S. Navy was trying to track down an AWOL sailor!
As a Christian, I am deeply concerned that the phalanx of billionaires at Trump's inauguration represent today's "big brother". They control our money. They control our words through their algorithms on social media platforms. Now, they have determined who got elected and they will determine how the government's money (our taxes) will be spent.
Jesus, as you know, comes preaching good news to the poor. I doubt whether His words would survive their aglorithms.
Jonathan, the people you describe are now bending the knee to the person with the current power. This is not new. Not even for them. Many of them have been using their money and algorithms to sway elections and spend taxpayer dollars for many years. One need not look far to find money men involved in every administration.
Jesus came preaching the good word to both the rich AND the poor. God is able to use anyone to accomplish His will. We should pray that His will be done.
The concept of that Scripture reference on knowing God but treating others poorly.. is what I'm currently working on. As I've really read about Jesus and took deep dives on the meanings in his teachings I know he set the example we are to follow. A good book that has helped change me to be more like Jesus is The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success. One of the laws is give something to everyone you meet...a smile, a compliment, a physical gift... it's a game changer!
It is worth 3-minutes of your time to YouTube search 🚂 for the Jimmie Rodgers Tune, "The T.B. Blues" 😔 while remembering that just 100yrs ago, TB was an almost certain death sentence. Always sobering to come across so many lives of that era cut short by this all consuming disease. 🕯️Be grateful, MEMORY ETERNAL! ⚰️ 🪦
When I first read 1984 in the 70's in High school, I had a deaf co-worker and so the principles of INGSOC and NewSpeak were very intriguing. I feel your pain.

This is a good word on words. Thank you Jason.

Well said with Grace!
I had no idea he used a pen name! Thanks...
Right there with ya!

I'll have to check that out.
An historical aside 🎶 🕰️ 🇺🇲 for all Americans:
