Several things came to mind as I read this in your always excellent style.
1) 1 Corinthians 16:13 is a verse I pray daily for our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world, including the final phrase of that verse, "and do everything with love." I think this is significant.
2) Stories like this seem always to remind me of President Reagan's famous nine words no American wants to hear: "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."
3) Now that we have a President who has common sense, we can see the wisdom and future benefits of the tariffs being imposed. I believe they will, indeed, make this country better again.
I agree. The only reason tariffs wouldn't have worked over the last 100 years is because the government wants to be involved in almost everything. Imagine what this nation and its people could have done without the federal government wasting money on thousands of unconstitutional and dubious projects.
Having studied the American presidency, I enjoy your posts that dive into the complexities of presidential leadership. Your application was challenging, no light reading there! Appreciate the strong statement of truth!
Before I started this newsletter the presidents and the presidency was my main area of focus. I try not to overwhelm my readers with articles about them but I have a soft spot.
One could argue that Taft's compromise didn't matter because someone else (Wilson) would have done it anyway. But Taft's compromise did matter; the actions (or probable actions) of others are not an excuse to go against one's beliefs.
You bring up a common excuse Christians often use. And you're exactly right. What others may or may not do should have no bearing on the decisions we make for ourselves.

Powerful, conscience probing, and pertinent as always! Well done, good and faithful writer—pastor and counselor.
