Wow…Pride shuts God out…but humility “listens.” Interesting sequence of events…

Thank you. An admonition we should not ignore. As we face the specter of an increasingly technocratic world ,full of hubris and pride.I pray we harness this new technologies and the proper use of this new tools rather than doing things that we can, but should not do. We might be facing the destruction of the latest iteration of the Tower of Babel. I’ve read that the Bible tells 365 times not to fear. 1 for every day of the year. Fear not. Our God is in control!

When I was a kid, I went through a phase where I would watch the same Titanic documentary over and over again on VHS and read the same Eyewitness Titanic book over and over again. Curious how one event in history can grab hold of you.

Yes! I had subjects like this too and I've seen it in both of my kids at different times. I think it must be pretty universal but I'm not sure why.

There was a song written by Texas blues singer Blind Willie Johnson titled, "God Moves on the Water" that criticizes the extreme pride held by the builders and operators of the Titanic. It reads as a sermon against their pride, and tells what happens in those cases.

Thank you for your many salient points regarding the destruction pride inflicts on the soul of the believer. May we all head the admonition of the proverb and your wise instruction. Many thanks, God bless. Shalom.

I have always been fascinated by the story of the Titanic so I really enjoyed this piece. But more than that, this is the subject I have been dealing with in my ministry this week. It's easy to get in a hurry and walk ahead of God instead of following His lead. Sometimes, it's easy to want to excel in "doing God's work" that we start thinking we know best. Nothing good comes from walking one step ahead of God instead of one step behind. Excellent post as always. It was very timely for me. Thank you Jason!

Thank you, Kate! I too have always been fascinated by the story of the Titanic. And I’ve learned that getting ahead of God often puts us behind where He wants us to be.
